So where was I? Oh yes, just finishing the ´V´ walk of the W walk in Torres del Paine. That was a long day! The next day, most of the group went back to the campsite (those that wanted to do the full W walk had already left us at a camp site higher up). I wanted to do the W Walk but didnt like the idea of lugging my big heavy bag with me for a 10 hour walk on the 3rd day - so I cheated. Me and Maria got the bus to close to the campsite on the 3rd day and only had to walk for 2 hours with our bags which was much better. Then we could do the 3rd peak on the last day. It was totally worth it, the sky was a gorgeous blue and it was just amazing up there by the Torres. The climb was really steep in places but it was fine really, I really enjoyed it. I am trying to put pictures on when I can but it might not be for a while unfortunately. So instead of the W Walk I did the VI walk which suited me fine!
The scenery changes in Torres del Paine on the 4 days of walking though was just incredible. THe first day was all lake and icebergs and glaciers, the second was forest, snow, avelanches and snow capped mountains, the 3rd day was lakes, rolling hills, streams and valleys and the 4th was glacial lakes and mountains - just amazing. Id recommend this place to anyone!
So we left there today on the bus and are now in El Calafate, having an afternoon to ourselves and getting ready to go to the Moreno glacier tomorrow which Im really looking forward to. The drive was really nice. Loads of flat land and sky, occasionally glimpsing a pink flamingo, condors, guanacos and the odd sheep. Condors are massive! For the amoung of farm land around here, there is hardly any livestock though, but I guess the distances are so huge, the sheep can really spread out! Then we crested a hill and got a clear view of a great big range of the Andes, it was fab.
There´s not all that much here in El Calafate, but we´re staying in a hostel which is nice, the first time Ive slept in a bed in 9 days so Im really looking forward to it! I think at the Moreno Glacier we´re going on a boat trip right up to the glacier and then for a trek on it.
Ill write again when I can, not all that much opportunity to get in contact though at the moment Im afraid.
Keep in touch all
