So from Wanaka I headed over to Christchurch to see my friend Gayle from Warwick. The bus journey there was beautiful, great views of Mt Cook and the lakes.
I didnt book a hostel in Chch and that was a mistake as I ended up staying the night in the YMCA - haha! I should have asked if I can prove I know all the words to the song and the dance, would I get a discount?
But aside from that, I was a little worried what I was going to do in Chch as I'd already seen a lot of what's there, but I was happy to learn Id arrived in the middle of the World Buskers Festival! There were loads of different stages around and some really great acts on and around the city.
That first night I met up with my friend Carissa and we went for a massive jug of beer before heading off to the Aerial show and fire show. THey were very clever acts. The aerial show had lots of trapeeze swinging in it, a picnic 10 foot in the air and lots of juggling, it was great. THe fire show had loads of flaming batons, poi and other such things, but as it was on at 10pm you could see the fire much better than when they did the earlier show in the light.
The next day I checked out of the YMCA as early as possible and headed across town to another hostel :) Bags were dropped off by about 8.30 and I went to have a cup of tea and felt a little aftershock, thats the first one Ive felt in Christchurch. It was about a 4.0 apparantly but quite near the surface so we felt it.
anyway, I met my friend Gayle in the afternoon after watching some more buskers including a famous kiwi duet - Ive forgotten their names but they were very good at yodeling! It was really nice to catch up with Gayle as I hadnt see her since the UK and after lunch I headed back to where she was staying for tea and in the evening I took her and her fiance back into the city to watch the buskers festival. The city had a great atmosphere for the festival, it was great to be there for it!
