Last few weeks in Melbourne

So after coming back from Queensland, it was pretty depressing being back in cold, grey Melbourne! But I did quite a few fun things with my final couple of weeks in Victoria. I met my friend Dani for an evening of Jazz near Parliament which was really nice, I explored some of the laneways and arcades that are in the CBD - lots of fun shops and cafes to poke about in! Went for hot chocolate at one of the many chocolate shops around. I had a hot chocolate with a dollop of ice-cream in it which tasted really good, but the downside was that it went cold really quick! I guess next time I'll have to eat it quicker!

The next weekend I went out for a road trip with my friends Catherine and Chris Lemon in their new car, christened "the Lemonmobile". We went out towards the Macedon Ranges, about an hours drive outside of Melbourne. We started off by having a look round Woodend, a nice little town with its own microbrewery, which we resolved to come back to later! After a coffee we went out to Hanging rock. This is a famous place in that in the early 1900s a bunch of school children went camping and some disappeared, never to be seen again, and others came out several days later with no memory of what happened to them. Its a fun place to go to and there are lots of rocks to clamber over and scramble up and its a lovely view from the top. We picked a lovely winters day to go on.

After our clamber up the rock, we felt like we deserved a beer or two so we headed back to Woodend to try out the microbrewery. After that it was back to the Lemons for a spot of Mariocart on the wii! :)

The next week I went out for a couple of drinks with my friend Sarah, making the most of the free drinks vouchers she had with her! We also went out one night to Prahran (a suburb of melbourne) to see an a capella group called the magnets. There were 7 of them in the group and they were amazing! One was the drumkit and one was the bass guitar and the rest sung the harmonies. They did lots of up to date pop songs like lady gaga and bon jovi, queen, ACDC, it was really good! They finished the night with blame it on the boogie complete with dance moves from the audience!

I went to the Jazz evening again with Dani that week and after my last day of work at Monash (I got a lovely Monash Pen from them) I headed out with Catherine, Chris, Dani, Sarah and Annett (who had just arrived into Melbourne from Tasmania) for a nice malaysian meal on Brunswick Street followed by cocktails at Polly's. The cocktails were pretty pricey, but I'd heard so much about them from Sarah, I had to go and try them out before I left. I had a 'lemon meringue' cocktail and it was delicious! And the bar Pollys in itself was really cool, lots of old fashioned chairs that you could sink into whilst supping on your cocktails - yum!

The next day, me and Dani treated ourselves to a wine tour in the Yarra valley. This was a full day wine tour that we did. I've only ever done half day tours before that so I was a bit anxious I was going to be under the table by 11am. Anyway, the day consisted of 4 wineries, including Chambord (as of Moet and Chambord) so we had the closest thing we could get to champagne outside of France. We learnt that the smaller the bubbles in champagne, the less of a hangover you have the next day! they had some sparkling red wine which I tried. It was... different but not totally unpleasant. Just a bit odd! The wineries were really nice and we had some cider as well as wine, along with a really nice lunch at one of the vineyards.

After the day trip, I met up with my friend Annett to polish off the cider I bought earlier that day and to plan our great ocean road trip for the next 3 days...
