Hello, well I'm 3 days into my travelling now and have seen lots already. On the Monday I decided to go for a nice long walk to acclimatise myself to the city. I walked out of San telmo where my hostel is into the mainpart of the city and found a really lovely square with lots of greenery, benches and trees with purple blossom on them. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine, I thought I had a perfect photo opportunity, until I realised I'd left my camera battery in my charger - DOH! I was rather annoyed with myself! But anyway, it turned out is found st martins square, named after some general or other.
From there iwalkwd onto recoletta cemetary where all the rich and famous people are buried, including Evita. I had a good look round, once again cursing my stupidity with the camera battery! But the place is like a little village with each gamily having their own mausoleum, its like a little village with streets going through it and everything. I found a really lovely one for a presinential person who only died 2 weeks ago, it was a White marble carcophagus thing with a stained glass ceiling and whenthe sun shone through, it illuminated the grave, it was really lovely. I also saw evitas grave.
From there I found a nice park to sit in for a bit and rest my feet, there are soany green own spaces and places to sit down around the city, it's really nice. Anyway, the park I selected had this massive sculpture in it. Well, I saysvulptute, it was this massive metal flower made of sort of stainless steel pna water base so the water reflected on the petals, really nice. So I had a mice sit and ready book for a bit. On the way back home I bumped into my dorm buddies and we decided to go for steak that evening- it was most yummy!
On Tuesday I decided I was going to tackle the parks the other side of the big flower statue thing so I got up early (armed mith my camera and battery this time) andheaded out. This day was cloudier and a bit rainy and I kept having to stop under doors and stuff until the downpours stopped, but I got there (with a few quick detours to the cemetary and stuff to snap a few pictures). There are lots more parks the other side of the flower and I had a great big long walk to get to the far end but there were some lovely gardens up there including a rose garden and a Japanese garden. I was rather soggy by the time I got to the Japanese garden as there was another downpour and the tree I'd chosen to shelter under wasn't all that useful... Oh well! Anyway, it was about a 7 hour round trip walk so I decided I'd earntmyself another steak :-) this time I tried one at my hostel, it was a great deal of a 300g steak, potatoes and salad for 35 pesos (about £7). It was really good!!
Today I've been to 'Fiesta Gaucho' about an hours drive away from BA. I had a little horse ride and then we had a great big BBQ (yet more yummy steak and all you can drink wine and beer) a tango show anda gaucho show. The food was really yummy, the tango show was ok although I think the bloke dancing it was a bit too old to be dancing in a show... Not great. But the dances were overall good. The gauchos did some demonstrations of their horse-herding abilities and then finished off with riding really quickly at a sort of overhanging branch with a tiny ring suspended from it and the idea is to hook the ring on the end of the pencil they hold and pull it off the branch. It's quite clever. Then they gave the rings to people in the audience (I have one) as a little present.
And that's where I've got to so far... Tomorrow I'm going to Tigre delta which is to the north of BA to go on a boat and look at the countryside and on Friday Im popping across to uraguay for the day which should be really cool and then on Saturday I fly down to the bottom of Argentina, Ushuaia. Will write again soon, lots of live, lorna xxxxx
Sounds fantastic. I really love reading all this. Am going to see Grampa Evans this afternoon and will take a copy with me - loads of love Mom xxx
